Details of safety observation:
At the end of the day on Friday, a time when people are more likely to overlook safety momentarily as they think about finishing up their work week, we were signing out at the AT office. We have multiple trucks in use on this project and during the day I may end up in one truck or another, go to site in one truck and return in another, etc. My gear was in the back of one truck, but I realized I would be riding back to the crew house in a different vehicle - the other was going to drop people off at nearby communities - and so walked over to that truck to retrieve my effects from the back. While I was gathering up my equipment, the occupants of the truck loaded up and prepared to leave. The engine started, but the driver saw me behind the vehicle, waved, and waited for me to finish gathering my equipment before moving. It would only take a second or two of inattention to potentially cause an injury in this scenario. Always shoulder check, always be aware of your surroundings, when operating a motor vehicle this is especially important.
