Details of safety observation:
Ashcroft Terminal is located within a desert sagebrush biome. The areas we work in may have been subject to recent disturbance, from the auger testing we are conducting for this project especially, that may obscure the surface. Prickly pear cacti are abundant in this area, and have tough sharp spines. While kneeling down in a disturbed area I felt a sharp prickly feeling in my knee; I was kneeling on a cactus that was partially buried by sand (from the disturbance of our work) and not very visible. No injury, but very uncomfortable.
Immediate action taken:
Situational awareness is important; although unlikely, prickly pear could potentially cause a minor injury. I always ensured there wasn't a cactus, even a hidden one, whenever kneeling down to record an Auger Test from then on.
